Speech and Language Therapists tend to predominately support children experiencing Dysphagia – meaning discomfort or difficulty with swallowing.
Signs of a feeding challenge requires a Speech and Language Therapist
Tamariki presenting from the following signs and symptoms would benefit from seeing a Speech Language Therapist to support their feeding skills
– Refusal to eat or drink or only eating certain textures
– Taking a long time to eat (over 30 minutes)
– Coughing, gagging or vomiting during eating
– Frequent drooling
– Pocketing foods or spitting out a lot of foods
– Crying or fussing when feeding
– Frequent illnesses including coughs and chest infections
– Weight loss or challenges gaining weight
